I think it’s a little early in the season to be doing this, but NBC is running a 3-hour “marathon” of Friday Night Lights tonight. That’s right - that would be all three episodes which have aired thus far. Sadly, this show was pitted against Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday nights, and as hot as I find Kyle Chandler, I’d rather watch Emmitt do the rhumba than Kyle do the triple double axle or whatever it is football coaches do.
We’ve been recording the show, and find it entertaining enough. I’ve always been turned off by TV shows which displayed teenagers as having the emotional and physical maturity of 30-year olds, since I remember being a teenager. I thought I was smart…but I wasn’t. None of us were. I’m probably just a cranky grownup, but I get more of a kick out of watching all of the adults - from the mayor to the local car dealership’s owner to the busboy at Applebee’s - playing armchair quarterback and behaving like it’s their job on the line every Friday.
But, I love Connie Britton’s character - The Coach’s Long-Suffering Wife. Love her. She’s my favorite character, probably because I enjoy watching her mock the city’s gaggle of clucking hens.
I find it incredibly ironic they’re running the minithon…on a Friday. I would hope NBC would be smart enough to realize their core demographic won’t be home on a Friday night because they’re all at freaking high school football games!
Duh. I bet Jordan wouldn’t make a programming move like that.

I’ve tried to get into watching this show… but really, cliche filled and not really working on me.
New football coach, star player gets paralyzed first game outta the shoot, thuggish citizens blame coach for losing a game, after players try to cope with their friend that will now live a life in a wheelchair. There, I saved you watching 3 hours of NBC on Friday. Go watch a real game.
I do like the coach’s wife’s character, but isn’t Jack Bauer gonna git a little irked? I mean if there is one person that you wouldn’t want to piss off, isn’t it Jack Bauer? But the coach might be safe, since Tim Daley’s moving in on Jack’s main squeeze after they were trapped together for 52 hours in a bank.
hmm.. maybe I need to go to a real football game.
I also tried watching the show but did not get into it. Turned it off into the middle of the first episode. I have too many other shows that I watch and am running out of time for them anyway
Maybe they’re hoping people are recording it? My issue is that I’m kind of getting away from high school-centered shows. I feel a little too distant from them and get more annoyed at them.
I love the show…it’s so good. I’d rather see it than Dancing with the Stars anyday. I’ve never watched Dancing with the Stars….I sat through an episode of So You Can ThinK YOu Can Dance this summer with a woman I was seeing at the time….
Is it like Smallville without the meteors?
I haven’t watched, and it does sound like some cliches, but sadly - that is EXACTLY what it’s like in Texas.
The coach lives or dies by how the football team does. And the parents live to watch their kids - either play ball, or play in the band or on the drill team or as cheerleaders. This is Serious Bidness around here.
Raise your hand if you’ve driven ever two hundred miles (or more) just to watch your neice in drill team at halftime…
Maybe I’ll Tivo the Lightathon, I haven’t seen any episodes since Tuesdays are soccer practice nights.
