This is truly what some kids need this holiday season…an evening in the slammer.
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — A fed-up mother had her 12-year-old son arrested for allegedly rummaging through his great-grandmother’s things and playing with his Christmas present early.
The mother called police Sunday after learning her son had disobeyed orders and repeatedly taken a Game Boy from its hiding place at his great-grandmother’s house next door and played it.
He was arrested on petty larceny charges, taken to the police station in handcuffs and held until his mother picked him up after church.
“My grandmother went out of her way to lay away a toy and paid on this thing for months,” said the boy’s mother, Brandi Ervin. “It was only to teach my son a lesson. He’s been going through life doing things … and getting away with it.”
Police did not release the boy’s name.
The mother said that her son was found in the last year to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but that his medicine does not seem to help.
Couldn’t be the kid is just a brat with no boundaries and no respect for anything or anyone (in which case, Mom’s presents should be confiscated, too)…nooooooo…we have to put the ADHD spin on it.

Really? I don’t think he’s being a brat based on the one incident, I just think he’s a kid. Most kids do something silly like that at one point or another.
It’s not one incident…Mom says, “He’s been going through life doing things … and getting away with it.â€
Obviously she also figured it was a problem at this point, or she wouldn’t have called the cops.
You really think it’s okay the boy repeatedly, after his mom told him not to, went into his great-grandmother’s house and pulled out the toy? That’s not silly…that’s defiance and 100% lack of respect.
Here’s more of the article…
“She said he faces an expulsion hearing at his school Wednesday. Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said the boy took a swing at a police officer assigned to the school last month. He has been suspended from school since then.”
Yep, I agree with you fully. That constant “ADHD” label irks the crap out of me, and is just a sorry excuse for poor parenting sometimes, methinks. It gets used more often than not by people who refuse to accept responsibility for their and their kids actions. Mind you, I’m not blanket stereotyping, as I know there are some kids with a genuine disorder.
That kid needs a good old fashioned ass whoopin’, IMNSHO.
I agree with you on the kid being a brat and not excusing it, but what a waste of our law enforcement’s time. Can you imagine if they’re called for every kid that disobeys their parents?
