Mocha Chocalata Ya Ya

**PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CASA DE SNARK**

With Easter upon us, it’s likely many of our homes will be filled with chocolate. KEEP ALL CHOCOLATE WELL OUT OF REACH OF YOUR DOGS!

Last night, I was wondering where Cookie was when I heard Daisy rustling around in my office…sniffing, what I quickly found out, were the remains of a 3.5 oz. Lindt dark chocolate bunny, meant for CU’s Easter basket. There goes that surprise.

Unfortunately, it was Cookie…not Daisy, who had eaten the entire thing. She’s not a very clean eater, and the chocolate breath and smeared goo all over her mouth gave her away.

As soon as I realized what had happend, I immediately gave her hydrogen peroxide (knowledge left over from when she was a puppy, and ate one of my earrings)…and we spent the next hour watching her throw up 3.5 ounces of chocolate bunny.

Chocolate is incredibly toxic to dogs…and with Cookie being only 5 pounds…I was a petrified doggie momma.

Everything’s fine now, though. The vet told us to not let her eat last night, since the peroxide would likely upset her stomach…so after all of the drama of the early evening, we had to watch her pout and pace and pitch a fit because she was so hungry. You know how it is…you have a stomach bug, whatever was causing the problem is…um…expelled, and then all you want to do is eat.

Short story long…Cookie was a very happy camper this morning when we let her eat breakfast, and she’s doing fine. I’m still keeping an eye on her…and the chocolate well out of reach of prying doggies…and uberhusbands.

That Cookie is quite the crafty scoundrel isn’t she? Thank goodness Daisy inadvertently led you to the crime scene.

    Glad she’s better.

To make a long story short, I cleaned up dog poop laden with Easter-colored Hershey’s Kisses foil for a couple of weeks one April.

(BTW, after a trip to the vet, the dog was fine. Just a bit lethargic.)
