Josie went home…as predicted. Private Practice was unbearable…as expected.
We did watch Dirty Sexy Money last night and, you know what? I liked it. CU liked it. We enjoy the Darling family (Is Chuck the black sheep?) and their Kennedy/Hilton family tendencies, and I just love Peter Krause. I’ve been a fan since Sports Night. Nick George and the darlings are just that perfect juxtaposition of good versus…well, not evil necessarily, but seriously effed up.
Intrigue abounds…why does Karen have so many failed marriages? Sure, she’s been in love with Nick since she was a little girl, but she’s obviously looking for love…and sadly, with men who only seem to be interested in her financial and professional connections. By the way, Daniel Cosgrove (Matt from Beverly Hills, 90210) as Freddy…the PGA player…hilarious.
Also hilarious? Nick’s assistant Daisy and her selection of ringtones for each member of the Darling brood…”Rich Girl” for Juliet, “Pretty Woman” for Karen and “Hallelujah” for Reverend “I hate you” Jeremy. And, congratulations to Blackberry, for further showing the world that the Crackberry can, indeed, ruin your life and the lives of those around you.
What else does the show have…tranny hookers (“She’s not a tranny hooker.” - Patrick), suspicious plane crashes, a decades-long affair, an illegitimate child…and wonderful, wonderful Jeremy Darling. Naming his Asian sister-in-law, “No Fun” was the high point of the evening. Wait, wait…I take that back. The high point of the evening was a really weird cameo by Dan Rather. Huh?

yeah, you hated Grey’s at first glance too… shondaland will woo you… besides without Private Practice, where else can all the actors with canceled series go to work (Daybreak’s Taye Diggs and The Nine’s Tim Daly)
Looks like I’ll have to *find* a copy of Dirty Sexy Money lying around somewhere.
Yeah, I know…and don’t think I wasn’t thinking about how I loathed Grey’s at first when I was writing about how I didn’t like Private Practice!
I did read somewhere though, that the folks in Shondaland changed some things up in the show and that it gets better around episode 3 or 4…so, we’ll see. I don’t have anything better going on during that timeslot, so I’ll still stick it out. I haven’t completely cut it out of my viewing schedule yet.
And, don’t forget Amy Brenneman! Although…Judging Amy stuck around for several seasons…it was still cancelled.
Well… in contra to my post, Journeyman is another haven to a Daybreak cast off…
Moon Bloodgood… at least for a few episodes…
And Firefly cast members are coming back:
Jayne (Adam Baldwin of the good Baldwins, not the bad Baldwins) is in Chuck, and Cap’t Mal is coming to DH.
Everything gets canceled sometime.
I recorded Dirty Sexy Money and am looking forward to watching it. As for Private Practice, I watched some before passing out… it was Ok so far. And I hope they don’t get rid of Mark Cuban just yet on DWTS. Tonight… ready for all of it. Why aren’t you watching Betty?
I’ve never watched Ugly Betty…it drives my mom nuts that I don’t, but it drives me nuts that she doesn’t watch My Name is Earl and The Office.
I haven’t seen DSM yet, but Ted and I agree with you on Private Practice. I had a feeling you would have posted about it today, so I wanted to come over to kibbitz. I just don’t think it’s going to last. The actors are fine, but I think the set-up of the practice itself is dull and I don’t see how we’re going to really care about their patients and what’s going on b/c basically, only rich people can go there anyway.
Also, the best part about Grey’s is that these people are masters at their professional craft but their wrecks in their home life, which is kind of an interesting dichotomy that we can somewhat relate to on a personal level. And then they have pretty good patient storylines like Denny and Rebecca from the ferry crash. But last night’s ep? I thought the storylines were just stupid. I’ll give it one or two more tries and then I’m done, and then Kate Walsh can go back to Grey’s. Even Ted pointed out that the best scene in last night’s ep was when she was fighting with the Chief in the first part.
First of all, I was surprisingly sucked into DSM. I really enjoyed it. And enjoying a pilot enough to forget what else is going on in your life is a very good sign.
As for Private Practice…eh. It was ok, but first of all Taye Diggs is like an bad omen. He joins a cast and kablooey! Show is canceled. And I’m not an Amy Brenneman fan. She annoys me. I will watch for Shonda, but my hopes aren’t up.
I liked Amy Brenneman in Judging Amy…but I gotta tell you, I would have zero faith in any of those doctors over at the Huggywuggy Wellness Center. Amy’s character is a total train wreck, and what happened to Addison? She seemed rather skilled in Seattle, but now…I wouldn’t want her anywhere near me or my unborn child. The only one I really like is Cooper.
I read somewhere Kate Walsh or Shonda Rimes…or someone…described the Private Practice folks as “more mature” than the residents on Grey’s Anatomy. From that, we were supposed to assume they wouldn’t be…as immature, I guess. True, the Huggywuggy practioners are older, but they’re no wiser…IMO. In the show’s defense…when it was on I was unwinding from a rather dysfunctional online project team chat, so Addison could have probably cured cancer and I wouldn’t have been impressed.
