How Damn Adorable Is This?

The Girls

Seriously, now. Ya’ll might have cute kids…but my dogs are just about the cutest things out there. They look mighty good for their age, don’t they?

I just wish we could somehow figure out how to get Daisy to look less petrified when taking pictures of her. Her head is raised, her ears are down…you’d think we had the camera flash attached to her toenails or something.

BTW - Cookie turned 11 last weekend, and now she just won’t let up on me…wants me to get her a training bra and thinks she should be able to go out on group dates with boys. Right, like that’ll happen.

Yeah, I know - I have a strict rule that I generally don’t discuss anything Christmas-related until at least my birthday has passed…but I had to lead off this year’s shopping guide with a particularly special inaugural item…a Dolce & Gabbana Motorola Bluetooth headset.

Now, I understand the allure and profitability of Dolce & Gabbana striking a licensing deal with Motorola…but seriously folks, is there a market for this sort of thing out there? Is this what the kids on The Hills are wearing this season? Funny thing…this is the exact same headset I own, except…mine is this one. Maybe I need to write “SW” on mine with a magic marker. That would be really cool.

There was an article in the Dallas Morning News this morning, talking about the age-old subject of, “How old is too old to go trick or treating?” It reminded me of the last time I went trick or treating…my freshman year of high school.

So, I believe you’re too old to go trick or treating when you’re old enough to find out on the bus the next day that your boyfriend dumped you the night before…and everyone else knew before you did. Good times.

Seriously though…how old is too old? I remember being at Mom’s house years ago, before she moved to New York, and her doorbell was ringing until 10 PM. At that late hour, it was generally teenagers in totally non-original costumes like “High School Junior” and “Disaffected Youth Gone Mild”. She gave them candy because she was afraid they’d trash her house if they didn’t. And that my friends, is the reason for the season.

  • Yeah, I know I haven’t posted in awhile…I’ve started about half a dozen posts and in the end, they all end up sounding really lame so they’ve been scrapped.

To tide ya’ll over though…at least until my Marketing class ends and I get some semblance of a life back, how about a little Amazing Race fantasy game action over at Fafarazzi?

For those of you not involved in Fafarazzi, this could be a great opportunity to get involved…and can I just say, yours truly had a hand in determining some scoring rules…

    • 1 point - Hugging Phil at the Pit Stop mat
    • -2 points - Both teammates fail to drive a manual car (stick shift)

Heh. And now of course, I’m waiting to see how many people hit my site with the keywords “Amazing Race Phil Fantasy.” Just you wait.

    Dadgummit, Engadget!

Ya’ll stole my blog title idea. Grrr.

The friendly FedEx person showed up bright and early this morning and delivered my Leopard…it arrived intact, despite the lack of air holes. Heh. Get it?

The box is really neat…all hologrammy. Now we just need to begin all of the preliminary tasks such as backing everything up, getting a new external hard drive (because really, now is as good a time as any), ensuring I still have the Tiger CDs…then letting ‘er rip.

The great news is with Leopard, Mac has integrated Boot Camp - which means we now have no excuse not to ditch the desktop PC in favor of a new iMac. I have no problem unloading the entire Windows OS with the exception of one app…Microsoft Money. In ten years, I haven’t found a better financial management tool for my/our needs…and I have to have it. HAVE TO.

  • Seriously?

It’s one thing to endure the next few weeks what with school and Christmas already breathing down my neck, but in my few spare moments - when I get the chance to read a little Michael Ausiello scoopthis is what I have to read?

Question: What’s going on with George and Izzie on Grey’s? Are they breaking up or not?! — Damian

Ausiello: I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore. After my interview with Shonda Rhimes at the Emmys, I thought for sure she was pulling the plug on this ill-conceived romance. But yesterday I got an unconfirmed tip that Gizzie is still alive and kicking in Episode 8. That’s right — 8! That means we’ve got at least five more weeks of these two! My mole also reports that in the same episode, Mer and Der are still going strong with their whole let’s-have-sex-but-not-be-super-serious thing.

EIGHT? Although really, George & Izzie’s relationship isn’t any more disturbing than this.

    And Then, There Were Three

My Marketing class team is now a team of three…the castaway has been voted off the island. I’ll be honest…it wasn’t an easy decision to offload him, but his laundry list of offenses, his lack of remorse or concern regarding the work he blatantly plagiarized and lack of concern about the sling in which he theoretically could have put our collective ass…well, maybe it was an easy decision.

So last night, we had our first post-Tribal Council meeting. I’m not sure if we’re working more collaboratively as a team because our 4th wheel is gone, or if we’re working more collaboratively because coming together multiple times over the past six days to decide his fate bonded all of us.

Tonight’s Thursday, right? Geez, this week is flying by. CU and I are taking Cookie to the vet this afternoon for her quarterly checkup, which consists of x-rays, blood work and a blood pressure check. It’s always fun going to the vet. Whenever Dr. Cinclair speaks, Cookie barks at him. Love that dog.

  • I was flipping through the channel lineup at lunch, and stopped at That Thing You Do! on HBO because, well, that’s what I do when that movie is on. I remember when it was released in the theater, I saw it three times in one weekend…with three different groups of people. My friend Lisa and I even cut out of work early one afternoon to catch it in a completely empty theater…that was fun. We were so naughty back then!

I also remember seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark literally, about a dozen times in the theater when it was out. The movie theater at our mall back then showed it for…no joke…about a year.

Interestingly, I don’t think I’ve been to see a movie multiple times in the theater other than those two instances. I’m kind of fuzzy on whether I saw Pretty Woman more than once…

So, have any of you cut out of work to go to the movies? I’ll admit…CU and I have done it a few times. It was really easy when we both worked for the same company, and the movie theater was just across the street. Heh.

So, I realized over the weekend that I am a much happier person when I’m blogging every day. I don’t know if it’s the active engagement with the Outside World (”I posted! Ping Blogrolling! Come on over and talk to me!”) aspect which pulls the happiness lever, or the opportunity to think about something other than work, school and home improvement projects.

But, it’s true…so…let’s talk, shall we?

I’m playing in a Fafarazzi TV league for Dancing With the Stars, and have had the same “team” of three couples since the show began…Mel B, Helio, and Sabrina. I briefly thought about replacing Mel B with Marie yesterday afternoon, but really, how was I supposed to know Jennie Garth could overcome Her Professional Partner, Gumby, and pull off a fantastic tango? Kelly Taylor…coke addict, cult member, rape victim, shooting victim, sexually harassed employee, boutique owner, Alpha Omega girl…ballroom dancer? Will wonders ever cease?

Anyone else besides me want Donny Osmond on DWTS next season? Anyone else besides me want to take all of Cheryl Burke’s trophies away from her, because she’s being such a snit? You can’t be a champion every season, girlfriend.

Oh…and let’s talk about Wayne “Don’t Call Me Steven Seagal” Newton. Eww. Seriously…eww. I think Mama Snark said it best last night, “He should have stopped after the first face lift.”

And…thanks Mark Cuban, for finally learning to not sing along with the music while you dance.

    We’re At It Again!

This was one of those minor enhancements we thought would definitely give a boost to our now-aging cabinets, but they look way better than we expected.

Well, we received 125 out of a possible 125 points on our industry analysis.

Allow me to share some insights from the glowing review our Marketing professor provided…

  • This semester is going to be the death of me, I swear. Last week was pretty much a blur, as things with our project started to unravel because…in a nutshell…there are people on my team for whom this MBA program is last on their list of priorities (okay, maybe not last…maybe one notch above flossing). That’s it in a nutshell. It has taken me a good 36 hours to unwind from Saturday’s stress…and I’m trying to move on…

As an update, the castaway we wanted to throw off our island? Let’s just say Jeff Probst highly recommended we beat the castaway senseless, to make him see the error of his ways. The only problem is, the castaway doesn’t seem to be too interested in making it to the merge (so to speak), much less win a million dollars. So, we’re stuck with him. The irony of this is that while we’re basically forced to keep the guy on our team, keeping him there drives down the morale of the other team members.

Sort of sounds like…the environment of many American businesses.

We had our own tribal council yesterday, and have voted someone off our island.

Sorry, pal. No immunity idol for you.

  • My Head Hurts

Industry analysis due Saturday…team member submitted plagiarized work to add to our group doc…slowly losing my mind…good times.

Oh, I taped Kid Nation and watched the first ten minutes of Private Practice last night, then we watched Chuck from Monday night.

    I heard tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was hilariouslyfantasticallyawesome. I can’t wait.

Pushing Daisies was wonderful, but a little…dark…for early prime time, dontcha think?

    Trapped Under Two Huge Books

Since I opted to help CU with the pantry instead of study…my free time today is sucked up by school work.

    I’ll be back soon though!

card, my: Paper status symbol that is the subject of bizarre corporate pornography with fixations centering on variations in card stock, font, printing, etc.; often distributed indiscriminately at restaurants and funerals; forum for some of the most inspired work ever executed by employees, who get "creative" with their job titles while still managing not to lie, e.g., the photocopy repair guy becomes Junior Technical Operative, or a meaningless title is made up altogether, like Enterprise Solutions Manager; most valuable use is entering raffles for free lunch.
