At 3 a.m., the fire alarm wakes you. You realize that the house is on fire, and that you’re sleeping naked. After grabbing a robe, and making sure that people and pets are out and safe, what would you search for next?
Um…how much time do I have? Has the fire just started, or is the house GOING DOWN IN A FIERY BLAZE OF GLORY?
Kind of makes me think I should get all of these things organized into the same general location.
What about you?

My stuff is pretty well-organized (hurricanes) but other than the people and pets (and maybe my purse), I’ve learned to just let go. We’ve had to replace everything once before, including photos. You learn a lot from that.

Using My Words
I haven’t really given it any thought at all. Most of the possessions I’d want to take are in close proximity, but I think I’m more worried about grabbing some clothes to wear instead of just a robe. What if it’s windy? hmmm?
And putting it in a fireproof box. After my mom’s house burned down, I think the purse is one of the first things to grab b/c it has all of your money and identity in it and assuming the cell is in there as well. My mom didn’t get anything out, so she had to borrow money from friends (b/c it was after bank hours and she didn’t have an ATM or credit card) to get clothes. She also didn’t remember any of our numbers b/c they were all programmed into her cell, so she had to call information and only one of us has a listed number.
For pictures, I’ve also thought about being more diligent to upload them to a site like Flicker so that I have them, even if I lose my PC.
I’d have to agree with Anna — an outfit other than a robe.
Ya know, I always worry about the thought of making sure I have Kasey that I never think about other things…
I guess photo albums, the teddy bear I have from when I was a little girl, and my laptop.
