What was your first “real” job?

I was a service clerk at my mom’s company…the summer after I graduated high school. Part of the scholarship I won from the company guaranteed me summer employment for all four years of college - I took advantage of that for two years. I did all sorts of fun stuff like answer everyone’s phones if they weren’t around (no voice mail back then), process customer payments, and learn about the important things in the workforce - like taking a break for exactly 15 minutes - no more and certainly no less.

Where would you go if you wanted to spark your creativity?

Hawaii…it’s just so completely different from my day-to-day life which in terms of location, tends to dull rather than spark creativity.

Name 3 fads from your teenage years.

Swatch watches, Guess? jeans and..those horrible jelly shoes. I remember back when we cheerleaders had a car wash, and I wore a pair of grey jelly shoes. I figured they’d be practical (practical…God, what a dork I was even then) because, well, they were plastic and I was running around in water. Well, the front of the shoes were this checkerboard pattern and sure enough, at the end of the day, I had a nice checkerboard-patterned sunburn on my feet!
