Weekend Wrap-Up

I don’t say this very often…but I had a great weekend. Now, that’s not to say I generally have bad weekends, it’s just that usually we’re busy doing something (or feel like we should be busy doing something) and then I turn around and it’s Sunday night…and I kind of feel like I got ripped off in terms of weekend fun. With school starting back up again next weekend, I need to pull it together and get into a good routine and invest in cultivating better habits.

Having said that…

Friday

  • We’re trying to get back into habits that make us happy and which we enjoy. This sounds like a no-brainer, but our general routine has gone out the window in the last six months and it seems to have taken that long to get things back under control. When CU got home Friday night, we sat around a bit and talked (were going to go to the gym, but my bursitis is acting up again…call me Granny Snarkwife) and then headed out for sushi, then grocery shopping. We love Central Market…it makes us so happy. Felt good to get back into that groove again.
  • I seem to always forget Friday Night Lights is actually on Fridays now but luckily, Tivo remembers. I had read that there would be a “surprise pregnancy” on the show, and all we could think of was that it would be Saracen’s new girlfriend…who happens to be his grandma’s home health care worker…lots of fun. But then I read last week it wasn’t her so…whew. Then I thought it might be Buddy Geraghty’s ex-wife when she announced her engagement, but…who cares if she’s pregnant? It won’t be Julie Taylor because fortunately, Coach Eric pulled a lecherous Tim Riggins off of her before things got too out of hand and he took off her shoes. Now, I get Coach Eric would be leery of Tim…but we all know Tim was trying to protect and take care of Julie. Tim may be troubled, but he’s not an idiot. Plus, where’s the outrage at Julie coming home stinking nasty drunk? Would be great if someone would address that next week, but I suspect that will go the way of Lila Geraghty driving her car into her dad’s showroom and destroying multiple cars…nowhere.

Saturday

  • It was 75 degrees here on Saturday. No joke. We were able to open the windows and let some humid air into our bone-dry (thanks, natural gas heating!) house. Just as it is very odd to put up Christmas decorations when it is 70 degrees out, it is just as strange to take them down when it’s that warm. But alas, the 2007 holiday season has been officially dismantled and put back up into the attic for another eleven months. Our house looks weird now.
  • As part of our ongoing effort to Do Things We Like But For Some Reason Stopped Doing, we headed over to Farpointe Wine Cellar on Saturday afternoon to partake in the weekly wine flight tasting. CU and I started going to Farpointe a couple of months after he got back from Iraq, and it quickly turned into our weekend “thing.” We’ve become fairly friendly with the staff…especially the manager, Michelle, whom we just love. She’s fun and knows her wine, but isn’t an annoying wine snob. If you live in Collin County, check ‘em out. They’re at the corner of Legacy and 121 in Frisco. I’m even dallying with the thought of using them for my market research class, if the opportunity presents itself.

Sunday

  • I’m trying to remember what we did yesterday…OH. We did the usual Sunday paper-reading thing, then went to Target and the grocery store. I shouldn’t be surprised anymore that on January 2, the swimsuits and shorts start appearing at Target…but I am. Even though it was 75 degrees out when we were there, the true insanity of the situation won’t present itself until we have our first ice storm and local area residents won’t be able to find any space heaters because the display has been taken over by beach towels.
  • When we were watching The Amazing Race last night, it sure did seem like we were being set up for TK and Rachel not only going home, but also showing up to the pit stop about fifteen hours later than everyone else. I figured if they were that far behind they wouldn’t have to do all the tasks so either (a) the Amazing Producers were going to be really cruel or (b), it was a non-elimination round. Fortunately, it was a non-elimination round. I am being forced now though, to come to terms with the very real likelihood Grampa Underbritches or Papa Hernia could go home with half a million dollars.
  • On a related note, it looks now like the season finale will be on our anniversary. Best anniversary gift ever…as long as we can figure out a way to work wool or copper into the show.

What did you do this weekend?

Maybe you can wear wool sweaters? We took our tree down over the weekend and well and the place doesn’t feel quite the same now.
