Bush: Tax rebate checks are on their way - USA Today
What are you doing with yours, assuming you’re getting one? We’re getting a rebate check…but barely.
Our plan is to cash it (or rather, withdraw it since it will be directly deposited to our bank account), stick it into the Fun Fund and then do something really sexy with it for our Hawaii trip in September…like use it to pay for doggie boarding.

We aren’t spending ours. We in the process of attempting to become debt-free AND save up 6-months of expenses into an emergency fund. That rebate check will start up that emergency fund.
I haven’t paid taxes in the US for 6 years. Here, I pay only about 6% and it is wonderful. I think about the tax bracket I’d be in back home, being DINKs with a job and a home business that makes more than my salary, it would be pretty high. We are able to save 2/3 of what we earn. It makes me not want to move back to the US until I retire!
What would I do with the refund check? I don’t know, save it for tuition in that doctoral program I’m starting next year, I guess (hence negating the stimulus on the economy that a refund is meant to do). For the sake of the US economy, I hope that people do go out and spend it.
Consume, consume, consume!
Mine is going in the siding assessment fund, which is due on June 1. Good times.
Well I **was** going to spend it all on tacos and margaritas, but… well, no tacos for me for a bit.
I think we’ll probably sock ours away, too. If we spend it on travel, great. If not, a few pennies in interest never hurt.
