Wii Fits of Rage

Before we get to the main point of this post, let me just say that although David “Weighing in at 100 lbs. soaking wet” Archuleta has a great voice, I want/need David Cook to win American Idol. He’s clearly the more commercial artist, and has a greater chance of surviving the rocky road of pop stardom than “Archie” (God Seacrest, really?), whose fan base will outgrow him in about three months.

Alrighty.

So as I mentioned yesterday, CU and I bought a Wii over the weekend. For all the hullaballoo about zero inventory and people not being able to find one, there were four of them at our local Target on Sunday afternoon. The paper that morning had ads for Circuit City, Best Buy and Target…all advertising the Wii, along with the “quantities limited” disclaimer. Circuit City was handing out wristbands an hour ahead of store opening. Yeah…didn’t want one that badly.

But as we were out and about Sunday afternoon, we thought we’d swing by Target and see if they had any left. They did. We’re now addicts in need of Wiihab. Heh. I remember when I got my iPhone, everything was iThis and iThat…now it’s all Wii, all the time. I suffered my first Wiinjury over the weekend, pulling a muscle in my left hip due to an overly exuberant bowling style.

Don’t worry, the Wiinsanity will stop soon…but for now, I’ll run it into the ground.

This morning, Wii Fit was released to retailers and Target hailed in the Sunday ad that it would be available at 8 AM today. So, I figured…why not? I needed to pick up dishwasher detergent and deodorant, anyway. I show up at 7:55 AM, and was actually surprised to see a line in front of the store. I’m not normally one to stand in line for anything…and actually felt a little embarrassed. I told CU it was a good thing that I had other things on my list, or I’d feel really silly.

It was a strange hodgepodge of people in line…older women, moms with little kids, guys who look like they still live with their parents…and me. At 8 AM the doors opened, and the folks in line didn’t exactly run to the electronics department…but they sure did walk really fast. Warming up for the Wii Fit, I assume. I grabbed a cart and moseyed back in my own sweet time, stopping en route to grab deodorant and dishwasher detergent.

When I got to the electronics department…man, people were all sorts of agitated, throwing questions at the employees like, “How many can I get?” and “Are there enough for everyone?” The answers were “1″ and “Not everyone, but everyone in line right now,” respectively. The woman behind me was all in a panic, because I guess her son threatened her as she dropped him off at school. She needed to get him a Wii Fit or else. Well then.

I’d like to say the process ran as smooth as silk, but it didn’t. 99% of the people there showed up specifically to buy the Wii Fit, so once they had their box they headed up to the front to pay. I had other things to get though, so when the salesperson put mine in my cart, I headed back to housewares. No one said a thing to me.

As I was examining outdoor mats, I was confronted by the Wii Police, inquiring as to whether or not I had already paid for my Wii Fit into my cart. No, I responded - but I would as soon as I finished the rest of my shopping. Apparently, while I was listening for instructions in line, she spoke in a language I can’t hear. She said she told everyone in line that they had to go pay for their Wii Fits upfront.

First off, she never said that - she assumed incorrectly that no one else had other shopping to do. Secondly…here I am, in the back of the store…and she wants me to go all the way up to pay for one thing…and then come back to finish. Forget that. I told her that she gave no such direction and I’d make it up to the front as soon as I picked up the other two things on my list. I even told her she could come with me, to ensure I didn’t do something with the Wii Fit…not sure what.

Short story long, I finally made it out of the store…and am now the proud owner of Wii Fit. I’d open it up, but this seems like something CU and I need to share together, to increase our Wiintimacy levels.

Sorry…Snarkwiife had to do it.

I think we might get that as well, though I didn’t realize that it was just being released.

I have been thinking about buying a Wii just for the Wii Fit. However, I am too afraid to play, for fear of purchasing one and then many, many games. My parents have had one since it first came out, and I have yet to partake :)

    And hell… it’s 81 there. I hate you.

We love our Wii! Tried the bowling for the first time the other day and bowled an amazing 121! LOL! Don’t think I’ll be getting Wii Fit though, I get a heck of a workout from the boxing.

I HATE that at stores. I can see if its a little item- one easily pocketed/pursed-but seriously, a large box like that? Especially with the 17 security device tags in there? C’mon.

gap analysis: An official assessment of how something got screwed up; also functions as a form of penance for those who have screwed up, who will ensure their commitment to a thorough gap analysis to account for their commitment to a thorough gap analysis to account for their sins, though probably they are hoping some other crisis will make everyone forget they're supposed to be doing one.
