Some things just beg to be blogged. From the Dictionary of Corporate Bullshit:
frustrated: The state of being pissed off, and doing everything within one’s power not to leap across the table and throttle the human source of frustration; when used by a boss describing himself or herself to a subordinate, may mean “Are you a complete and total moron or just aggressively insolent? We’ve talked about this seven times.”
Once of my coworkers said, “I’d heard frustration defined as ‘controlling the urge to strangle the life out of someone who desperately deserves it.’ Fewer fluffy words.” To which I replied, “By the sheer definition of corporate bullshit, it must be longwinded and lacking in brevity.”
I couldn’t believe I’d pulled a big word like “brevity” out of my hat. Must be getting close to the beginning of the next semester. It’s around now that I start using words with more than one syllable.
So, what else is going on with me? Well, not much. Aside from the terrifying shock of opening our electric bill and seeing the amount ($450! And nine cents!), I’ve just been enjoying the time off from school and waiting to go to Hawaii (Two weeks!). CU went to Tulsa for the week (Back this afternoon! Yay!), and yesterday we got tickets to see the American Idols Live tour at American Airlines Center on Monday. I wouldn’t be that excited except the tickets are in his former company’s corporate suite. And here I thought I’d never see the inside of that suite again once he left, but hey…being a vendor has its perks.
On the weight loss front, as of yesterday I have 1.5 lbs. to go to hit my goal weight…which means I’m right on target. I wanted to be at 137 by the time we went to Hawaii, and things look pretty good.
Speaking of Hawaii…and aggressively insolent…remember the BS I talked about with the guy renting us our villa out in Hawaii? Well, he has struck again. Yesterday, after not having heard from him since that phone conversation last month, and still waiting to have the balance hit our credit card I sent him an email. Here’s what I got back:
Aloha Stacy,
I have good news. We made an error with our booking system and rented you a villa that was already paid for by another party so we are going to upgrade you to a 1700 sqft for most of your trip at no additional cost to you. You will be in Villa 202 (800 sqft) 9/6-8/08 and Villa 203 (1700 sqft) 9/8-13/08. Our staff will move your packed bags and packed food items between villas for you on the day of the move and you will not have to be there at all. You will receive both villa’s keys ahead of time and can just enjoy your day and come home to an expansive new villa with your bags in it that afternoon. Please let me know if that will be acceptable to you and let me know which credit card you would like me to pull the balance off of. Thanks.
Um, we reserved villa 102 on May 22. You confirmed that reservation on May 22, on July 1, and then twice again at the end of July. Are you freaking kidding me? Plus, he improperly used the possessive apostrophe s in “villa’s”. That always winds me up. CU called and gave Mr. Villa’s voice mail a rather pissed-off piece of mind indicating his “solution” was completely unacceptable. CU is anxiously awaiting a return call.
What we’re pretty sure happened is after that last conversation I had with Mr. Villa, he realized he had no place for us to stay (um…can’t find your paperwork, the “other credit card” which was on file, etc.) and then figured…I don’t know, that we’d forget and would just be so darn grateful for a place to stay that we’d be more than happy to stay on the second floor and have to move mid-trip, even though we reserved a specific villa three months ago. The least the guy could have done to put a little more proverbial lipstick on this proverbial pig was throw in a set of steak knives. I’ll keep ya’ll posted.
And that is why “aggressively insolent” is my new favorite phrase.

maybe “brevity challenged”, to throw in the classic PC term.
