In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb

Yikey schnikeys, what a week of television!  Things got off to a rousing start last Monday with Dancing With the Stars, and then limped out last night with Desperate Housewives.  I recorded Brothers & Sisters - haven’t watched it yet.

Thankfully, we watched Mad Men after the season premiere of DH - so I was able to go to sleep on an up-note.  Well, mostly an up-note.  What other show on television would show your bosses canning you, then buying another round of drinks before y’all head off to a private speakeasy?  This ain’t your father’s (grandfather’s? uncle’s?) workplace.

There’s still more to come this week…Dirty Sexy Money and Pushing Daisies return on Wednesday, as does Chuck tonight.

Anyhoo..here are my picks and pans for Premiere Week:

Meh

Boston Legal - the cast is down to about five people, now - and David E. Kelley has about that many liberal bents left to preach to us.  The countdown begins.

Grey’s Anatomy - Seriously. Aside from Bernadette Peters, Mariette Hartley, and Kathy Baker reuniting for their Legends of Life tour (resurrecting Izzy’s Floating Ballgown Angel from the season 2 finale)…Cristina gets stabbed by an icicle in a downright comical (karmical?) turn of events?  By the way Shonda Rhimes, thanks for bringing in Major Doctor McArmy, but not for the reasons you’d think.  Now I have to listen to Capt. UberHusband even more than usual about the military-related technical inaccuracies.  Sigh.  No matter how hard I close my eyes and squeeze my fists, it will never be Season 2 again.

The Amazing Race -Maybe after six Emmys, 80 katrillion miles, eleventy thousand detours and four years… I’m just burned out on this show.  Can’t hack the bickering separated couple (I get it, he cheated), Judd Apatow’s Frat Boys (seriously, who let Seth Rogan in?), and even though I can still come up with kick-ass team names (South Classylina!)…meh.

Desperate Housewives - Boring, boring, boring. Plus, now we get Fat Gaby and Gaby’s Fat Kids.  We had pretty much decided DH quit being Must See TV when the kid sneered at Gaby and then boarded the bus for home.  I thought Lynette sent that annoying storyline to live with her Grandmother last season.

Woot!

Dancing With the Stars - Yes, in spite of Cloris Leachman.

The Office -YAY JIM AND PAM! YAY!  Oh, and I love that Phyllis is now the head of the party planning committee.  Way to work the situation to her advantage.

Survivor -Attention Gay Guy:  Straight guy just isn’t that into you.  Move on.  Seriously though, fun season so far.  One piece of advice…don’t ever hire Randy as your wedding videographer. Sakes alive, what a pain in the ass he is.

ER - Unbearable grief aside (God, did it have to be such a violent death?), no one does heart-wrenching drama like ER.  I don’t care if you haven’t watched it since Clinton was in office, I’ve watched it since 1994.  And, I’ve watched it since Pratt was a pissy young doctor.  His character had changed so much and had finally come into his own.  So, what else can you do other than kill him in the opening episode?  We were rooting for Haleh to be hit by a truck, BTW.

Kitchen Nightmares - I love Gordon Ramsay.  I love him even more when he gets locked out of the restaurant in the alley!

I haven’t watched DH or B&S yet — we watch way too many shows, but fortunately we have two DVRs. I gave up on ER a couple of seasons ago, but I have to admit that I thought they’d played out the violent death of their employees a little too much — it’s not a very safe hospital to work at, now is it? :)

No kidding. If you aren’t stabbed or blown up in an ambulance explosion, they give you a brain tumor or amputate both your legs. Sort of makes Carol Hathaway’s season 1 suicide attempt seem rather tame, doesn’t it? :)

So, I have to ask should your next blog be an episode from Kitchen Nightmares???
