“It’s great to meet you too, Bobby Flay. And, I am honored and humbled by your request for a spaghetti sauce throwdown.”
I mentally rehearsed that line in my head all yesterday afternoon, just in case I happened to meet B-Flay himself last night at dinner. Alas, we had to make do with a waiter who kind of looked like him. Dinner was awesome. We practically shut the place down…it was nearly empty when we poured ourselves out around 10:45 PM. If you can believe it, we didn’t get a single picture. But I swear, we did eat there.
So, New York has officially attained Most Favored City status for me. As a matter of fact, it is so wonderful that I’ve spent all morning in my hotel room because the last two days have literally kicked my ass, to the point where I will likely need another week to recover once we get back to Dallas.
Having said that…what else did we do yesterday?
After I finished up yesterday’s blog post, I began my Grand Walking Tour. I took 54th over to Sixth, then walked down to 49th so I could take in the wonder of Rockefeller Center and Rockefeller Plaza. The tree’s up and everything. From what I understand, they’re putting the star on today…so hopefully I’ll get to see that when I head back over early this afternoon. Plus, I saw a fantastic-looking wine shop I wanted to poke around in a bit.
While continuing down Fifth I took a bit of a break on the sunny steps of the New York Public Library. It was great, because I got hit on by some guy. Me…hit on. That hasn’t happened to me in…well, a really long time. Another reason to like this city. He asked if I was from out of town and I replied, “No,” to which he replied, “Weird. Everyone I think is from around here isn’t, and everyone I think is from out of town is local.” Too funny. Nice enough guy…he didn’t approach me in a trenchcoat or anything.
I kept walking south, eventually heading east on 34th towards Herald Square so I could go check out Macy’s. One thing’s for sure…that store sure does put the Macy’s I usually patronize to embarrassing shame. I didn’t have that much time to browse though, because I was meeting CU at the Affinia across from Madison Square Garden…and then…we went to SuperMac for lunch. Oh. SuperMac. So good. SO good.
CU was free the rest of the afternoon, so we headed back to Macy’s to take some pictures and buy some earrings. That was my goal for this trip…to buy earrings. I have woefully few pairs of earrings. Anyway, then we swung by Mood to take a looksee, and caught a cab back up to the hotel. After all the walking, that was a good idea. “What CU, you don’t feel like walking 25 blocks back?” Heh. Oh, better than seeing Mood was seeing the store across the street which sold nothing but spandex. No joke. All spandex, all the time. Sexy!
After resting up for a bit and uploading pictures (I swung by a Best Buy to get an SD card reader), we walked back over to Rockefeller Center to go to the Top of the Rock. We decided to take in the view there instead of the Empire State Building because I had read terrible recent reviews of not being able to see anything due to the hordes of people. I was nothing but impressed with the whole Top of the Rock experience. The people were friendly, the crowds were unbelievably well-controlled and organized, and the view. Well…the view was pretty amazing. Couldn’t have asked for better weather, either.
The one thing this trip I really wanted to do - take the NBC Studio Tour - will have to wait until our next visit. Unfortunately, CU had to take care of a few things before dinner last night…and that precluded being able to take the tour. I thought about taking the tour on my own today, but figured I’d wait until we could both do it.
That leaves me pretty much open all day…or at least, until 3:30 or so. That’s when I head over to get in line for The Colbert Report. I can not WAIT for that show. Check your local cable listings for time and channel, then tune in for The Snarkwife/Colbert Birthday Report. Stupid production nazis won’t let me take any pictures, but I’ll provide a play-by-play tomorrow. And, since I’ll have nothing else to do while waiting in line and waiting for CU to accompany me…maybe I’ll Twitter the experience. Who knows.
With that…I am off.

Ohh…it’s the 18th! Happy Birthday!
