Who was the last person you hugged?

Capt. UberHusband. 99% of the time, he’s the “last person I…whatevered.” Exceptions include, “Who was the last person you called, ‘Mom’?” That would be…my mom.

Soup

Share a beauty or grooming trick or tip with us.

Get your dogs groomed every five weeks because at six weeks, they’re generally shaggy and out of control. Oh wait, was this supposed to be a personal grooming tip?

Salad

What does the color yellow make you think of?

Mustard

Main Course

If you were to make your living as a photographer, what subject would your pictures revolve around?

Doggies…or Hawaiian sunsets

Dessert

What was the longest book you ever read?

My constitutitional law book at UCSB. We used it for three terms, and it was about a bazillion pages long.

    Mmm…tasty!

    What is your favorite beverage?

    Coke Zero.

    Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work.

We’ll go with my office desk…I have the hard drive guts from an external HD which went kablooey a few weeks ago, my vacation countdown clock (currently set to 229 days), and a to-do list for today on the back of yesterday’s page from my Dictionary of Corporate Bullshit page-a-day calendar.

    Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are?

    Probably…an 8?

    Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why?

Ahahaha…I actually had this conversation with one of my college roommates 15 years ago. I’d change the name of Mar Vista in California to something else. There’s no sea nearby, and there sure as heck isn’t any view of the sea.

    Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down?

Right now, people who say they “work hard” stress me out. What does that mean? Just because you work hard, that doesn’t mean you’re getting anything accomplished. What calms me down…playing Diner Dash and lately, knitting CU’s scarf.

What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?

My middle name is Ann…and I don’t think I’d change any of my names. When I was a teenager I wanted to change how my first name was spelled, but I don’t think I ever really wanted it to be different.

    Soup
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?

I’d probably use cotton and linen…in colors like white, khaki, pink, light blue, navy…that sort of thing. I guess it would be “resort” style?

What was the last game you purchased?

Oh geez…I think it was the Millenium edition of Monopoly…back in 1999. Obviously, we’re not big game people.

    Soup
Name something in which you don’t believe.

I don’t believe in the idea that people are always rewarded for hard work and innovative thoughts - sometimes, those things wind up being bigger liabilities than assets.

    Salad
If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick?

Tom Hanks. I hear he’s fabulous to work for - tough, but he knows his business.

    Main Course
What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way?

You can’t make people love you if they don’t - no matter how hard you try.

    Dessert
Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room.

This place…the open window on the other side faced the ocean, and the afternoon sun streams in and warms the room. Add some soothing “spa” music and a little aromatherapy…utter perfection.

What is your favorite carnival/amusement park ride?

I can’t stand carnival/amusement park rides…always convinced they’re so poorly maintained they’ll fall apart while I’m riding one.

    Soup
How do you react in uncomfortable social situations?

I say something funny…unless something funny is what got me into the uncomfortable social situation to begin with.

    Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy discussing deep, philosophical topics?

10…you should hear some of the things CU and I discuss while reading the Sunday paper.

    Main Course
Did you get a flu shot this year? If not, do you plan to?

Ha…yes I did…and I got the flu this week, anyway. Go figure.

    Dessert
Approximately how many hours per week do you spend watching television?

This is sort of embarrassing. At least four or five a day during the week…I guess about the same on weekends, depending on what we’ve got going on. So…five times five plus ten equals…35? Geez, kind of like a second full-time job.

Name 3 television shows you watch on a regular basis.

    Grey’s Anatomy
    ER
    Dancing With the Stars

    Salad
What’s the scariest weather situation you’ve experienced?

When that psuedo-hurricane came through the Dallas area. I was petrified.

    Main Course
If you could wake up tomorrow morning in another country, where would you want to be?

    Aruba

What do you usually wear to sleep?

    A t-shirt and jammie bottoms

What is your favorite type of art?

Um…music? Is that a “type” of art? Or is that more of a “genre”?

    Soup
When was the last time you got a free lunch (or breakfast or dinner)? Who paid for it?

When we went to NC for our nephew Sam’s birthday, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law bought all the goodies for dinner, then cooked for us - that counts, right? It was free for us.

    Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how emotional are you?

    8

    Main Course
Approximately how long do you spend each day responding to emails?

Counting personal emails, work emails and now, school emails…a couple hours a day.

    Dessert
To what temperature do you usually set your home’s thermostat?

Right now, it’s set to 76 during the day (8 AM - 10 PM) and then 71 overnight. We ran an experiment this summer to see if our $390 electric bill during the “heat of the summer” would go down if we upped the thermostat from 73 to 76 during the day and turned all the ceiling fans on. Granted, it wasn’t nearly as hot this year as it was last year, but our bill did go down $40.

Who is the easiest person for you to talk to?

    Capt. UberHusband

    Soup
If you could live in any ancient city during the height of the quality of its society and culture, which one would you choose?

When I think of “ancient” cities I think of Athens, Rome, and Babylon. However, I’m not sure any of them had reached the height of the quality of their societies and cultures when they were still in “ancient” status. Athens would be pretty cool to visit now, though.

    Salad
What is the most exciting event you’ve ever witnessed?

When I was in college, UCSB upset UNLV in the Thunderdome (our home turf)…it was absolute insanity. Gotta love You Tube - it’s amazing being able to go back 17 years (good God) and hear all of us cheering “Gauchos, Gauchos.”

    Main Course
If you were a celebrity, what would you do for a publicity stunt?

Stay at home on the weekends and watch TV.

    Dessert
What do you consider the ideal age to have a first child?

When you’re mature enough to understand that parenthood goes past the cute baby phase - and that age varies from person to person.

Say there’s a book written about your life. Who would you want to narrate the audio version?

    Kathy Griffin

    Soup
Take the letters from your favorite kind of nut and write a sentence. (Example: Perhaps every avenue needs understanding today.)

Californians amazingly share heated Evian water. That is quite possible the weirdest sentence I’ve ever written. That’s right. I like both cashews and tiqptwsiew nuts.

    Salad
If you could go back in time and spend one week in another decade, which decade would you choose?

The 60s - probably because we just watched Bobby the other night.

    Main Course
Name a song that brings back memories for you.

I’ll reserve my answer for this until a little later today.

    Dessert
Do you prefer to wash your hands in cold water or warm water?

    Warm

Describe your laundry routine. Do you have a certain day when you do it all, or do you just wash whatever you need for the next day?

I do laundry every day…a load a day keeps things from piling up.

    Soup
In your opinion, what age will you be when you’ll consider yourself to truly be old?

Well, my mom is getting older, but my grandma seems old. So…80?

    Salad
What is one of your goals? Is it short-term, long-term, or both?

Finishing my MBA…that’s a long-term goal. A short-term goal would be…re-doing the pantry. I’m antsy to get going on that, but with our trip to Hawaii only three weeks away…and CU out of town the week after next…that might all have to wait until we get back.

    Main Course
Name something unbelievable you’ve seen or read lately.

I had to go to the vet yesterday to pick up some meds for Daisy (durn itchy paws again), and pulled into a parking spot next to a big SUV. The engine was running and there was a kid strapped into a carseat and another smallish kid tumbling around the backseat. No parent in the car. Turns out, the vehicle belonged to a woman who had brought her dog in for an office visit. I was flabbergasted. Had she not been paying the bill and on her way out, I would have called the cops. She wasn’t very nice to her dog, either.

    Dessert
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how happy are you today?

Sadly, about a four. My stomach, head and back have hurt all day…and Marketing Weenie is being particularly weenieish. Plus, it’s Cleaning Friday and I haven’t felt well enough to clean the house. Boo.

Man, it has been forever since I did one of these…

    Appetizer
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how polite are you?

To people’s faces? A 10…and that’s not a good thing, because it means I’ve also been walked all over more times than I care to admit.

    Soup
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?

Our Morning Weather Guy was wearing this awful red sports coat, black shirt and red tie today. The anchors were ribbing him about how he looked like a used car salesman, so he asked our Friday morning car review guy, “What would it take to get you into a car today?” Car Review Guy replied, “You’d have to take me to your audition for Guys & Dolls.” It was funny…maybe you had to be there.

    Salad
Who is your favorite cartoon character?

    Peggy Hill

    Main Course
Tell about the funniest teacher you ever had.

Mr. Doyle…he was my science teacher in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. I just adored him…everyone in my class did.

    Dessert
Complete this sentence: I strongly believe that ______________________.

I strongly believe that what goes around, eventually does come back around…sometimes it takes a long time, but it does.

card, my: Paper status symbol that is the subject of bizarre corporate pornography with fixations centering on variations in card stock, font, printing, etc.; often distributed indiscriminately at restaurants and funerals; forum for some of the most inspired work ever executed by employees, who get "creative" with their job titles while still managing not to lie, e.g., the photocopy repair guy becomes Junior Technical Operative, or a meaningless title is made up altogether, like Enterprise Solutions Manager; most valuable use is entering raffles for free lunch.
